Pre-Kindergarten Registration
Calallen Independent School District offers a free FULL DAY Pre-Kindergarten program for eligible students. The program provides a foundation for our youngest students. Instruction is based upon the academic, social, and emotional needs of our students and is aligned to Prekindergarten Guidelines.
Prekindergarten Eligibility
To be eligible for enrollment in a free prekindergarten class, a child must be at least three years of age on or before September 1 of the current school year (if a 3-year-old program is available) or four years of age on or before September 1 of the current school year and meet at least one of the following eligibility requirements:
- unable to speak and comprehend the English language
- is educationally disadvantaged (eligible to participate in the national school lunch program... guidelines about NSLP eligibility can be found in sections 4 and 6 of the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Administrators Reference Manual)
- is homeless, as defined by 42 USC, §11434a, regardless of the residence of the child, of either parent of the child, or of the child's guardian or other person having lawful control of the child
- is the child of an active duty member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who is ordered to active duty by proper authority
- is the child of a member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who was injured or killed while serving on active duty
- is or has ever been in the conservatorship of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (foster care) following an adversary hearing held as provided by Family Code §262.201 or has been in foster care in another state or territory, but currently lives in Texas
- is the child of a person eligible for the Star of Texas Award as:
- a peace officer under Texas Government Code §3106.002
- a firefighter under Texas Government Code §3106.003
- an emergency medical first responder under Texas Government Code §3106.004
- is the child of a person employed as a classroom teacher at a public primary or secondary school in the school district that offers a prekindergarten class under this section.
Eligibility applies to three-year-olds when a three-year-old program is available.

If you have other students who are currently enrolled in Calallen ISD and need to complete a Pre-K student application, please log in to your current Skyward Family Access account and use the "New Student Online Enrollment" (NSOE) link.
Required Documentation for Pre-Kindergarten Application
Before the application is approved, all students at Calallen ISD must provide the following:
- TWO Proofs of Residency (Click here: CISD Proof of Residency)
- Utility bill
- Lease agreement
- Mortgage payment
- Homeowner's insurance
- Child’s birth certificate or other proof of identity
- Certified birth certificate
- Passport
- Military ID
- Adoption Records
- Child’s social security card (if available)
- Child’s current immunization record
- All immunizations must be up-to-date in accordance with Calallen ISD School Board Policy standards.
- Your child must be available for testing if qualifying based on limited English Language Proficiency.
- Home language survey will be provided at registration
- Active duty military participation will require the following documents: Department of Defense Identification and a Statement of Service from the Adjutant General/ Director of Human Resources or an official letter from a commander that he/she is active/mobilized.
In addition, for specific program qualifications, the following will be required:
- Economically Disadvantaged
- Current paycheck stub
- SNAP letter
- Medicaid or CHIP letter/card
- Last year's tax return (only if self-employed)
- Acceptable documentation of cash income - letter from employer stating wages paid and frequency
- Limited English Language Speaker
- Your child must be available for testing if qualifying based on limited English Language Proficiency.
- Home language survey will be provided at registration
- Homeless
- McKinney Vento Form will be provided at registration
- Active Duty Military Participation
- Department of Defense (D0D) photo identification for children of active duty service members
- A copy of the "Statement of Service" from the Installation Adjutant General (AG) Director of Human Resources
- A copy of the Death Certificate using the service appropriate DoD form, or a DoD form that indicates death as the reason for the separation from service for children of service members who died or were killed
- A copy of the Purple Heart orders or citation for children of service members or mobilized reservists/guardsmen who were wounded or injured in combat; or
- A copy of the Line of Duty determination documentation
- Conservatorship of Department of Family and Protective Services (CPS)
- A copy of documents from the CPS indicating that the student is currently or formerly placed in their conservatorship following an adversary hearing under Family Code 262.201
Please contact your local campus for the following:
- Parents electing to apply online for their student(s) may submit the necessary documentation online or in-person with campus office personnel beginning July 15, 2024.
- Parents who do not have an active email address or access to technology will need to file an in-person application at the campus office and bring the necessary documentation to apply. Call the campus office to inquire about an in-person application date/time.
