    Course Description:

    Physics is the study of the physical world. Everything around us can be described by using the tools of physics. In physics, you will use basic concepts, equations, and assumptions to describe the physical world.

    Course Outline:

    1st nine weeks      Safety/Math in Science – Ch. 1, Vectors and Kinematics (motion) - Ch. 2

    2nd nine weeks     Newton’s Laws of Motion and 2 D Motion - Ch. 3, Fundamental Forces/Gravity - Ch. 4, Conservation of Momentum and Energy- Ch. 5-6

    3rd nine weeks      Thermodynamics -Ch. 7, Waves- Ch. 8-10, and Electricity Ch. 11-12

    4th nine weeks     Electromagnetism -Ch. 13, Atomic, Nuclear, Quantum Physics –Ch.14 

                               

    Classroom Rules:

    • Be in class and seated when the bell rings.
    • Bring all required materials to class each day.
    • Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
    • Respect yourself, your classmates, your teacher, and your school.

     

    Online expectations:

    • Students will participate on a daily basis
    • Students will join google classroom to communicate and submit assignments
    • Resources in the online textbook and activities completed in the online textbook will be graded.

     

    Consequences:

    • Cheating will not be tolerated: Students will receive a grade of zero.
    • Tardiness –as per student handbook
    • Disruptions – First offense verbal warning, Second offense – student conference, Third offense – parent contact, repeated offenses – Office Referral
    • Cell phones are to be used for academic purposes. Violations will result in confiscation of phone.

     

    Supplies:

    • Binder or folder to organize work
    • Pencil/pen
    • Recommend a scientific calculator

     

    Classroom Expectations:

    • Students are to begin warm up activities each day that they enter class.
    • Cell phones should be placed in the pocket from where you check out your calculator unless otherwise directed.
    • Students will participate in note taking, lab activities, projects, and presentations throughout the year.
    • Homework and online assignments will be assigned throughout the grading periods.
    • Quizzes, unit tests, and benchmark tests will be administered.

     

    Grading:

                                  Daily Work- Cat. 1                           20%

                                  Lab Work – Cat 2                              30%

                                  Major assessment - Cat 3                   50%

                                   

    Makeup Work Policy:

    • Excused Absences – If you are absent, it is your responsibility to check with lab members/online and see me your makeup work.
    • Makeup work should be turned in within two days of your return. Makeup tests and labs need to be arranged with the teacher.
    • Tutorials are available daily from 8:00-8:30.
